Key information:

• Camp will run 8:30am-5:30pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Parents are always welcome to stay if they wish.

• This experience is a full week of instruction condensed into three days. Be aware that some novices might not be up to family activities in the evenings during camp.

• The last day (Saturday) will consist of four practice debate rounds with support. We do require one parent per family to assist with judging (we will support new parent judges as well).

• Camp is required for both new and returning students. New students will drown without it—they will be about two months behind if they miss it. Returning students cement information at new depth, as well as teach/mentor others. All students receive instruction on both debate theory and the year’s debate topic.

• A distinctive of this camp is a four-hour topic lecture taught by the vice chair of the NCFCA TP Resolution Subcommittee (who develops and teaches about the topic each year for the league).

• We strongly encourage camp if your student is considering competing in Team Policy. It’s a “cheap experiment” to determine readiness and fit. Participating in camp does NOT mean your student has committed to compete in Team Policy this year. It’s fine to do camp and then decide the timing or fit does not align with your student’s needs.

• Registered attendees will receive an email with more details closer to camp. For now, know that students will need to bring paper and pen/pencil, a sack lunch, a water bottle, and a “bag of holding” to keep their stuff organized. Cell phones must stay stowed during class, and computers are not needed.
